The Effect of Reactive Oxygen Species and Antioxidants on the Survival of Yeast Cells Saccharomyces Cerevisiae and Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis Under the Action of Ionizing Radiation

Saccharomyces yeasts are widely used microorganisms for studying various effects on eukaryotic cells, their radiosensitivity. It is known that microorganisms, including yeast, often have a cross-reaction to various types of stress, including oxidative. The presence of free radicals in the body contributes to its aging. Thus, ionol can also be used to inhibit this pathological process. In this study it was established that the introduction of ionol led to an increase in the survival rate of yeast cells by 2–3 times. The survival of Saccharomyces yeasts in the presence of ionol under the effect of ionizing radiation was increased by participation of ionol in free radical reactions. The strain of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae T-985 and Saccharomyces carlsbergensis are used to study the oxidative effects of reactive oxygen species, antioxidative effect of ionol, X-rays (ionizing radiation) on the growth characteristics and fermentation activity of yeast under the combined effects of reactive oxygen species and anti-stress factors (low-intensity visible light). Conditions have been found under which such effects improve the yield of bio-synthesis of Saccharomyces yeasts.
