Hemp Waste (Husk) as a Sorbent for Treatment of Oily Wastewater

With the growth of production and processing of industrial hemp seeds as a source of many valuable products, the amount of waste, including the husk that remains after the seeds are hulled, is increasing. Hemp husk can be used as a promising sorbent for the treatment of wastewater from petroleum products. The aim of this present work was to investigate the possibility of using native and modified hemp husk as a sorbent for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with oil products. The native hemp husk can extract up to 65% of the petroleum products dissolved in water. The sorption capacity of the husk increases with increasing concentration of dissolved petroleum products. Treatment of the husk with liquid glass or foaming agent PO-6-RZ-1 increases the sorption capacity of the husk by 1.5 times.
