Practical Application of Lead Dioxide Anode for Removal of Heavy Metals from Wastewater

The lack of cost-effective anodes with good catalytic activity and stability still remains one of the most important problems in electrochemical oxidation for organic wastewater treatment. Electrochemical oxidation based on hydroxyl radicals formed on lead dioxide has become the main process of advanced oxidation. Titanium-based lead dioxide electrodes play an increasingly important role in electrochemical oxidation process. Wastewater treatment is a complex task, requiring the use of different physical and chemical approaches depending on the type and number of pollutants. Currently, electrochemical methods of wastewater treatment are considered the most advanced and effective. Electrochemical methods widely applied to effectively remove impurities of various compositions and dispersions, and make adjustments to the physical and chemical characteristics of water. Removing heavy metal ions from wastewater is of paramount importance for environmental safety and human health. These methods aim to remove heavy metal ions from various wastewater sources. This work presents a study of electroflotation purification of model solutions on a lead dioxide anode for the removal of heavy metal ions. The efficiency and stability of lead dioxide anode was investigated in different types of salt solution in various concentrations. Scientific and practical recommendations on the use of lead dioxide anode for the electroflotation process of wastewater treatment are presented. It has been established that lead dioxide anode materials have sufficient efficiency and stability for electroflotation process. The degree of electroflotation extraction of heavy metal ions reached more than 90%.
