摘要

Prostate cancer is one of the most frequent kinds of cancer in males. The number of post-prostate cancer recovery and survival rates demonstrates the efficacy of treatment interventions for prostate cancer. The quality of life throughout the surviving phase is just as crucial as the survival of prostate cancer. Although prostate cancer therapy methods have shown to be beneficial, a variety of adverse effects have been reported. The most common adverse effects include emotional and mental anguish, physical and financial difficulties, and impairments in physical abilities and appearances. Prostate cancer therapies have been shown to have a detrimental influence on urological dysfunction, sexual function, anxiety, and depression. Male erectile dysfunction and infertility are frequent side effects of prostate cancer therapy, lowering men’s quality of life. Erectile dysfunction is a long-term side consequence of reduced blood flow to the penis and autonomic nervous system damage. Finding affordable therapy and reliable methods for sexual rehabilitation after cancer is a major challenge. This chapter investigates ways to address the physical and emotional needs of prostate cancer survivors, highlighting the need for survivorship care plans, rehabilitation programs, and support services. It also covers treatment-related adverse effects and psychosocial support services. Prostate cancer is becoming more prevalent in African communities, demanding a greater understanding of risk factors, research, collaboration, and psycho-oncology programs to improve preventive and treatment results.
