In contemporary society, discussions about futures are crucial for long-term planning, innovation promotion, and adaptation to global changes, fostering sustainable growth and collective well-being. The European Union (EU) has recognized the need for forward-looking strategies amidst economic, social, conflict, and health crises. In 2021, the EU organized the Conference on the Future of the European Union to address governance gaps and engage citizens in shaping future prospects. This paper aims to create a composite indicator, the European State Of Future Index (ESOFI), based on the nine key themes that emerged during the conference. ESOFI seeks to strengthen European integration and guide policy formulation, focusing on crucial priorities such as climate action, health, youth, and security. By emphasizing these areas, ESOFI aims to promote a better and more sustainable future for the European Union and its citizens, ensuring resilience and growth in the face of global challenges. This approach not only enhances governance but also aligns with the EU’s commitment to innovation and proactive planning.
