The European demographic landscape is undergoing significant changes marked by increased life expectancy and declining birth rates, resulting in a growing population of older adults. This shift has prompted discussions on active aging, emphasizing health, engagement, and independence in later life. Our research employs sequence analysis to investigate the trajectories of individuals aged 50 to 75, focusing on health, partnership, and labor market exit. We identify four distinct trajectories for both genders, highlighting the impact of policy changes on retirement postponement and specific vulnerabilities faced by women due to widowhood and employment decisions. These findings contribute to understanding the challenges and opportunities for the young old, informing both individual choices and policies supporting the well-being of an aging population.
