Wheel Over Point Calculation Using Constant Rate of Turn Technique: Assessing Traditional Technique Novelty Through a Simulation Study
摘要
This research intends to evaluate the constant rate of turn approach in determining the wheel over point. While mariners navigating the ships are familiar with the aforementioned practice, there is a lack of data in scientific papers supporting the approach's efficacy; thus, its novelty is frequently questioned. This research next conducts manoeuvring analysis using a ship simulator to establish the technique's efficiency. The data obtained through the simulation study, specifically the cross-track distance data, was validated by comparing it to the cross-track limit in three different navigation areas. The approach validated in this study is planned to be used aboard the ship to assist navigators in making more effective course changes to maximise navigational safety.
