摘要

Following to the 2015 Ranau earthquake, structural integrity of existing buildings in Sabah became a concern. This is because most structures in Sabah were constructed with British Standard which did not include any seismic provisions. Although Kota Kinabalu has low PGA with 0.04 g, it remains the state with the largest population in Sabah with around 550,000 people. Thus, this study compared the performance of multi-storey buildings of 5, 10, and 15 levels with and without seismic load. In this study, SAP2000 was employed to perform structural and pushover analyses on the multi-storey buildings. Then, the take-off approach was adopted in Microsoft Excel to compare the cost of buildings with and without seismic load. The results showed there were no changes in the size of the beam and column, and the volume of concrete. However, there was an increase in the weight of steel reinforcement bars of the buildings with seismic load compared to buildings without seismic load. Hence, the total cost of building materials with seismic load was higher than building without seismic load.
