Structural Differences of the Iris of Different Eye Colors

  • Kambiz Thomas Moazed

摘要

To better understanding the phenomenon of eye color presentations, it is necessary to compare the differences in various fields of science, including anatomic structure, cellular specifications, and molecular biology of the iris tissue in different eye color specimens. A side-by-side presentation of extreme ranges of iris colors, for example the comparison of light blue iris with very dark brown iris will bring more insight in this complexity of varying iris color presentations. Understanding these differences are crucial in order to be able to attempt changing of the color of the eye, which makes this chapter the most essential part of this book. The anterior surface of the iris is the most influential structure in iris color variations. It is this surface area that has the most variation of structure in human eyes. These variations are due to interactions between fibroblasts and melanocytes with the production of collagen on the surface of the iris and the characteristics of melanocytes and their organelles, melanosomes.
