Tai Chi and Other Measures to Improve Gait and Stance Stability
摘要
The vestibular system has multiple inputs emerging from the labyrinth, the optical system, and the musculoskeletal system as the major sources. When the labyrinth is not fully functional (e.g., unilateral or bilateral vestibular loss, age-related degeneration), other additional measures can be helpful to stabilize stance and gait (apart from “classical” vestibular rehabilitation techniques). They are mostly aimed at strengthening/stabilizing/activating postural muscles and the corresponding musculoskeletal structures. However, there is no “one-fits-all” approach possible since the individual capabilities and needs of the vestibular patient must be carefully considered.
