Promoting Visual Health and Inclusive Education in Metaverse Learning Environments

摘要

With the rapid advancement of digital technology, online learning has become increasingly popular. However, extended screen time has raised concerns about students’ visual health, notably Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). How to promote visual health and respond to diverse learning needs are rarely addressed in the design of most learning environments. To fill in the gap, it is essential to consider and integrate design features and methods that focus on visual interaction, resource presentation, and inclusive, equitable education. This research aims to explore the effect of media design of metaverse learning environments incorporating visual health on learners. The research encompasses analyzing online learners’ cognitive behavior and emotional responses using eye movement and EEG data, establishing visual health metrics within the online learning context, and creating online learning materials informed by media visual training. Through this research, insights into mitigating computer vision syndrome in metaverse learning environments will be uncovered, while also expanding the cognitive theory of multimedia learning within the realm of visual health. Ultimately, this study will contribute to the development of visual health intervention strategies for large-scale open courses.
