Renewable heat covers direct and indirect final consumption of; bioenergy, solar thermal energy, geothermal energy, and renewable electricity for heat. Unfortunately, heat and transport lag behind electricity in terms of RE uptake, despite accounting for a considerably high share of the global final energy supply. This means that support of renewable energy in heating and cooling sector should be improved. In order to understand how it can be improved, policies that have been used for these purposes should be analyzed in detail. This chapter discusses heating and cooling related renewable energy policies according to their categories; (1) incentives, education and research, (2) public finance and (3) regulations.
