Old Versus New Approaches Towards TriTryp Diseases
摘要
Neglected tropical diseasesNeglected tropical diseases represent a heavy burden for human civilization. Among the NTDNTD listed by the World Health Organization, those caused by protozoaProtozoa of the TrypanosomatidaeTrypanosomatidae family are known as TriTrypTriTryp diseases, namely: African and AmericanTrypanosomiasis trypanosomiasisAmerican trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasisLeishmaniasis in their various clinical forms. They areVector vector-borne diseases with no vaccine schemes available. Chemotherapeutic options are still unsatisfactory and limited, for which drug resistance and the appearance of severe side effects are known. Ending the epidemics of NTD by 2030 is on the agenda of United Nations SDG-3. This chapter summarizes the initiatives and developments performed up to date to treat TriTryp and presents some opportunities to develop effective and less toxicToxic therapies. Finally, the chapter demonstrates that epidemic control depends on integrated sciences such as chemistry, medical sciences, parasitology, pharmacy, and material sciences.
