Global Impact and Strategies to Reduce the Mortality from Cardiovascular Diseases

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a set of long-term health situations that are not transmitted from person to person. NCDs include wide range of pathologies and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of them. CVDs account for more than 17.9 million deaths each year representing 32% of deaths worldwide. Risk factors for CVDs include usage of “tobacco, unhealthyUnhealthy nutritionNutrition, physical inactivity, alcoholAlcohol intake, and environmental factors”. CVDs can be prevented or controlled through lifestyle changes and the use of effective medicationsMedication and treatments. Efforts for the control and effective management of NCDs can aid to minimize the burden of these conditions on individuals and communities and can also help to reduce the overall economic burden on healthcareHealthcare systems. There is a wide range of policies and approaches to address cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) around the world. Some countries have implemented comprehensive national programs to prevent and manage CVDs, while others have a more fragmented approach with an amalgam of private and public sector initiatives. There are various policies in place around the world to address CVDs. Awareness programs can be an effective way to educate people about the risk factors for CVDs and provide them with the knowledge and resources they need to adopt healthy behaviors and reduce the risk of these diseases.
