Conclusion

This concluding chapter offers a brief overview of the preceding chapters’ findings and considers future directions for UK development policy and practice. The recommendations presented are fourfold. First, we encourage the UK Government to acknowledge the complex nature of global development and the limitations of international development policy and aid. Second, we suggest that the UK streamlines its aid programme, prioritising areas with clear links to positive sustainable outcomes. Third, we advocate for the adoption of a partnership approach to global development. Finally, we recommend that the UK actively works to end the harm associated with its development assistance and strives for greater policy coherence across all government departments to help achieve global development goals.
