Digital Earth Africa–Operational EO-Based Insights for Africa’s Development Challenges

Digital Earth Africa (DE Africa) operates a digital infrastructure in Africa that aims to provide free and open access to Earth observation (EO) data and services to all and build capacity across Africa to use EO based insights to address sustainable development challenges and empower country-level climate action. All DE Africa services are co-developed with partners to ensure they are fit for purpose and can be used to support decision making. In addition, DE Africa provides easy access to data and insights, and aims to drive innovation across sectors. By measuring and monitoring changes to the natural environment, including coastal erosion and inundation, degradation of water quality in rivers and lakes, monitoring of grasslands, croplands and forest cover, Digital Earth Africa enables insight-driven action on several fronts and a unique proposition as a tool to empower decision makers across Africa to take action against climate change leaving on one behind.
