Homegardens are highly anthropized environments, modified and constructed to meet human needs. In this context, the purpose of this work is a systematic review carried out by PRISMA recommendations, which sought to answer the question: Are plants in homegardens in dry environments more versatile and redundant when compared to homegardens in humid environments? The data search was performed in the Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases, using the standardized term “homegardens” without any time limit. Thirty-four articles were selected, of which 94.0% (32) were classified as high risk of bias in relation to the sample size. Generalized Linear Mixed Effect Models rejected the influence of climate on plant versatility and redundancy. It is concluded that variables not tested in this review (e.g., homegardens management, homeowner preferences, socioeconomic variables) may override the effect of climate on plant versatility and redundancy in homegardens.
