Hymenoptera in Amazonian Culture: A Brief Review of the Ethnozoology of Wasps, Ants, and Bees
摘要
The millions of living insect species play a vital ecological role in sustaining terrestrial ecosystems. They provide essential ecological and economic services that are crucial for the health, well-being, and nutritional sustainability of our planet. The impact of insects on human life is profound and multifaceted, permeating various culturally significant domains. These human-insect connections can be studied through different fields of research, but primarily through ethnoentomology. Given the rich and complex relationship between biodiversity and sociodiversity in the Brazilian Legal Amazon, this brief review chapter provides an overview of the ethnozoology of bees, wasps, and ants, showing the symbolism, local uses, and cultural values that these insects have for the Amazonian populations.
