Micro-regional Level Change Detection of Yamuna River Path Using Geospatial Techniques, Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh

摘要

River pathRiver path changeMicro regional level is a common fluvial geomorphic process. This said geomorphic process gives birth of several landscapesLandscape by erosional and depositional operations. For the improved prospect of showing the shift of the river pathRiver path, micro-regional level change detection is the most significant way, and the geospatialGeospatial technique (Remote Sensing and GISGeographic Information System (GIS)) is the most modernized method to find changes in any river channel. This chapter applies at the micro-regional level of the Yamuna RiverYamuna River, which creates intense meanders and forms oxbow lakesOxbow lake by shifting the path. Landsat 7 ETM+, Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS, and Landsat 9 OLI/TIRS satellite images were used to calculate the NDWI (Normalized Difference Water IndexNormalized difference water index) from 2012 to 2023. The Google Earth Pro image has also been used as real-time satellite imagery for change detection in past and present river situations. The procured Landsat satellite imageries were processed to get the shift of the river pathRiver path using the ArcGISArcGIS framework. This chapter uses six different time maps for 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023, making the total time 10 years. The results were validated using the overlay analysisOverlay analysis technique. The studied site indicated a massive shift in its path, which is 2370.86 mt. westward from the east side and formed an oxbow lakeOxbow lake in place of the meander and also shifted the path southeast side from the northwest side at the next point of the river channel that is approximately 700 mt., which is probably due to forceful water flow throughout monsoonal seasons. This chapter will help raise awareness of people's belongings, monitor the change in past and present situations of the river, manage the river basin area, and future development planning.
