Spatiotemporal Detection and Monitoring of Beas River Bank Erosion Using GIS Analytics, Punjab, India

This study shows the spatiotemporal variations in river bank lines due to erosion and accretionAccretion within ten years, i.e., 2013–2023. To examine the erosion and accretionAccretion of river banks, changes to the river bank line, and variations in river widthRiver width, Google Earth imagesGoogle Earth Image were processed and geo-referenced with WGS 1984. The superimpose technique is performed using ArcMap 10.8 software to highlight the relative change in bank lines from 2013–2018–2023. The analysis showed the river bank line changes due to erosion and accretionAccretion. The river’s width gradually widened from both sides of the bank. The river widened the course and eroded the right bank, creating a convex path. The river’s width gradually widened from both sides of the bank. The changes in the river in the earlier five years were more than in the recent five years. The resulting information will be helpful for the planning and development of this area.
