Other Implants

There are less common but significant cosmetic implant techniques for areas other than the breast, namely buttock, calf implants, and implants for correcting pectus excavatum. This chapter describes surgical techniques for enhancing the buttocks and calves with implants. Standard imaging includes ultrasound and MRI, which help in identifying any complications and ensuring the integrity of the implants. MRI sequences such as T2 STIR and WATER STIR “silicone only” sequences are used to differentiate between the different materials used in the implants and surrounding tissues. This section also details the use of implants to correct pectus excavatum, a common congenital chest wall deformity. It discusses the aesthetic and functional benefits of using custom-made silicone implants placed under the pectoral muscles. Imaging, especially chest CT scan, is essential in preoperative planning, allowing precise measurements of the chest wall and designing implant that fit perfectly. This chapter emphasizes the importance of specialized imaging techniques in planning and evaluating outcomes of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries involving various implants.
