Revolution in Russia and Unsuccessful World Revolution

This chapter presents the history of the Russian Revolution in broad context and long perspective, starting with the roots of the revolutionary movements in the second half of the nineteenth century. It describes the revolution of 1905, the First World War, the 1917 February Revolution, the fall of tsarism, the “dual power”, and the Bolshevik takeover. It presents reasons, why the events in Russia should be recognised as a revolution in the long-term approach. Finally it describes an unsuccessful attempt to spark world revolution, ending with Stalin’s reasoning that “socialism in one country” was possible.
