Alternative Metal Oxides to ZnO and TiO2 UV Filters
摘要
The potential harmful effects on human health and impacts in the environment of ZnO and TiO2, due to their inherent high photocatalytic activities, have led to renewed concern over their use in sunscreens. This has prompted researchers to investigate alternative metal oxides for application as UV filters, with similar UV-attenuation properties to ZnO and TiO2. This chapter discusses the different metal oxides investigated, such as iron oxide, cerium oxide, and tin oxide, and their modification to achieve UV filters with improved properties.
