Current Regulations Related to the Use of Inorganic UV Filters in Sunscreens

The use of UV filters in sunscreens is subject to their classification and approval by regulatory bodies. Even though ZnO and TiO2 are currently approved for use in sunscreens, concerns related to their nano-forms could result in their approval being reviewed as new information related to their safety comes to light from studies and reports. This chapter covers the current regulations surrounding the use of ZnO and TiO2 in sunscreen products. The requirements for sunscreens to be classified as offering broad-spectrum protection across the UVA/B region are also covered here.
