Surgery of the Face

This chapter discusses the etiology, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of swellings of the face, which could be either diffuse (acute or chronic) or localized (cystic or solid). It also discusses ulcers of the face, which are either ulcerative infective ulcers whether nonspecific or specific (due to tuberculosis (TB), syphilis, leishmaniasis, leprosy, actinomycosis, or anthrax) or ulcerating neoplasms such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma (MM), metastatic mass ulceration, and an infiltrating deeply seated tumor that invades and ulcerates the skin. This chapter also addresses the etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, complications, and management of the dangerous disorder of cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST).
