Pharmacoproteomics and Neurological Disease Management

Recent advances in proteomic technologies have contributed to the development of pharmaceutical formulations by facilitating detection of protein linked biomarkers, proteomics linked molecular diagnostics, as well as protein-based biochips. One of the foremost challenges in proteome research is to decode its applications regarding human diseases or their pathophysiology. Pharmaproteomics in neurology is a broad area with marked potential, including applications ranging from diagnostics to therapeutic applicability, which is nothing but amplifying its new potential therapeutic targets. In order to obtain adequate therapeutic efficacy in the field of neurology, identification followed by analysis of specific genes and/or their expression on specific proteins by pharmacoproteomics becomes highly necessary. In neurology, direct investigation of specific proteins may be extremely important, as they can be used as biomarkers, which are essential to differentiate between clinically similar neurological diseases. Proteomics in neurology is a budding topic nowadays, and data obtained from the pilot studies have indicated that the application of proteomics-based technologies in rheumatic diseases appears to be an electrifying illustration of this translational research. Proteomics is an important component of several interacting technologies used for development of pharmaceutical formulations. Finally, neurological disease is a good example of the application of proteomic or pharmacoproteomic technologies for its adequate management.
