Proteomics in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Prospects and Challenges
摘要
In recent years, the focus of proteomics in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors has changed from technology-focused and centrally managed discovery programs to enabling facilities integrated into research and production divisions. Application areas for proteomics include upstream and downstream process optimization, antigen discovery, research of protein–protein interactions, differential protein display between treated and untreated proteomes from preclinical studies (for example, cell culture model), and differential protein display between treated and untreated proteomes. Additionally, cutting-edge protein analytics created for proteomics applications are used to fully characterize protein treatments, including their structural analysis, physiochemical properties, and analysis of process- and product-related contaminants in accordance with ICH Q6B. Researchers from all across the world are using proteomics to advance the understanding of disease pathophysiology, find novel and potent biomarkers for early disease detection, and quicken therapeutic development. Proteomics investigations are based mostly on protein identification, and shotgun proteomics techniques like data-dependent analysis and multidimensional protein identification technology are used as examples of bottom-up approaches. Proteomics is at a turning point where innovative biochemical tools are launching us into a new era of chemical proteomics and biomarker discovery. More sensitive technologies are making it possible to better understand complex biological pathways. We outline these areas of innovation, and discuss advances in pharmaceutical research, and gaps in proteome technology in this chapter.
