摘要

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease of the brain and central nervous system (CNS), causing the destruction of myelin and axonal loss in the brain and spinal cord. In the last few decades, MS has undergone a lot of evolution, such as the first launched therapeutic guideline and diagnostic protocol. Still, there are no certain therapies, approved biomarker, or unknown precise pathogenesis and etiology. Understanding MS pathogenesis, especially during the progression of the disease, would improve the existing therapeutic strategy. This can be achieved by the identification of biomarkers that could help in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of MS. Proteomics provides a highly effective emerging tool to discover and detect biomarkers for diagnosis and develop novel therapeutics for MS. We discuss etiology, diagnosis, and management of MS as well as proteomic approaches applied in understanding pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of MS.
