Adsorption of Fluoride from Wastewater with the Activated Carbon Derived from Coconut Shell

摘要

Since water contamination with fluoride constitutes among the world’s most serious water-concerning issues, developing efficient methods to remove it from water seems crucial towards enhancing the healthcare of people throughout impacted regions. Adsorption is currently one of the most widely used methods to eliminate fluoride from water. It also attracted plenty of interest due to its excellent elimination effectiveness, cheap processing costs, and ease of functioning. Activated carbon derived using the shells of coconuts was extensively examined using a variety of methods to determine its structural morphology. The adsorbent substance used in the present study had been put towards for the experimental runs to purify water that had fluoride within it. The findings of the study show that the overall optimal conditions for maximal adsorption of fluoride are pH 7, 1 g/250 mL adsorbent dosage, and 91 m2/g surface area and 24 h of processing time. The maximum adsorption observed at aforesaid conditions is 85%. The results were also compared with respect to the ability of alternative adsorbents reported in the literature.
