Methodology for Development of Cost Response Maps for Membrane Bioreactor

A recent but proven option for biological treatment of wastewater is the use of membrane bioreactor technology. This chapter brings out the methodology followed to map in 3-D environment the cost response of biological treatment with membrane bioreactor for variation in inlet flow rate and inlet BOD. These maps are extracted based on data matrix generated from a model designed for engineering and estimation of cost as per the standard procedures and the use of scheduled rates for civil items. The use of any data library has been avoided to ensure high degree of accuracy in estimated cost. 3-D surface and contour cost response maps may be used by stakeholders for rapid estimation of capital costs and operating costs over 25 years for biological treatment of wastewater with membrane bioreactor. Maps will enable stakeholders for comparison of membrane bioreactor technology with other alternatives to arrive at unbiased selection for most suitable project specific technology.
