摘要

This extensive book chapter discusses numerous approaches for incorporating sustainability into both academic and extracurricular activities, as well as the critical role that higher education institutions play in promoting sustainability. The chapter begins with an analysis of the reasons why higher education is essential to society and then goes on to explain the vital roles that universities and colleges play in promoting critical thinking, expanding knowledge and developing future leaders. After that, it explores the nuances of incorporating sustainability into educational activities, stressing the value of multidisciplinary approaches and hands-on teaching techniques. Moreover, the chapter also discusses the particular difficulties business schools have in accomplishing sustainability objectives and offers suggestions for integrating sustainability concepts into business curricula and looks at how sustainability can be incorporated into extracurricular activities, emphasizing the importance of student clubs, recreational activities and sustainability projects on campus. Along with discussing these issues, the chapter also presents solutions for overcoming institutional inertia, resource constraints and opposition to change—all of which are inherent hurdles in the integration process. The chapter presents effective examples of integrating extracurricular and curricular activities to promote sustainability, drawing on a variety of case studies from various educational contexts. It offers insightful information and useful suggestions for educators, administrators and policymakers. Higher education professionals looking to improve campus sustainability programmes and support the larger societal objectives of social responsibility and environmental stewardship will find this chapter to be an extensive resource.
