Silica Nanoparticle for the Treatment of Bacterial Infections

The rise of antibiotic tolerance in various bacterial species poses a significant challenge in the treatment of bacterial infections, leading to ineffective therapy. The use of nanoparticle-based antibacterial therapy and diagnostics is now seen as one of the most effective approaches to overcoming the problems of infections caused by bacteria. One approach to overcoming this limitation is to utilise nanoparticles which can effectively react with the bacterial surface, destroying their cell wall and causing death of cells. Among the nanomaterials, silica nanoparticles (SNs) represent a desirable base to battle various infections caused by bacteria. In therapeutic medications, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) make especially potential nanomaterials for combating infection by bacteria have recently come to light. Many studies MSNs analysis has enormous possibilities for specific, accurate, and quick infection by bacteria testing. This book chapter covers the benefits, and applications of silica nanomaterials and its substitutes that have been stated in current years. Therefore, SNs have been highlighted as possible tools for detecting and treating infections involving bacteria. Thus SNs have great prospects because they are potent antibacterial activity.
