Introduction

This volume—containing articles and book chapters published between 1989 and 2017—is the sequel to two previous collections (Marcuzzo, Fighting Market Failure. Collected essays in the Cambridge tradition of economics. Abingdon: Routledge, 2012; Essays in Keynesian Persuasion. Newcastle upon Tyne: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2019) with which it shares approach and inspiration. The introduction makes more explicit what has been my guiding spirit and motivations in pursuing research in the history of economic thought in general and in the Cambridge and classical political economy traditions in particular. I discuss the work of Ricardo, Keynes, Sraffa, Bharadwaj and Robinson, in their own context, in some cases pointing to what in my view are misunderstandings or misinterpretations, in others claiming their relevance as an antidote to mainstream economics.
