The Computer and Information Science faculty at Penn had just been established as a Department in 1972. The department Chair, Aravind Joshi, began to build up a cadre of young faculty. Some of them were highly relevant to my interests in computer vision and movement descriptions in natural language. The collaborations were natural and meaningful. I teach programming because I can. I learn to appreciate teaching with individualized projects.
