AIM4FRAIL: The AI Based Approach for Early Detection and Management of Frailty Conditions
摘要
This paper introduces novel AI-based software modules integrated within an ICT platform designed for managing frailty conditions in older people who are confined to their homes, due to chronic-degenerative diseases, making home the first place of care. The paper describes two Computer Vision modules: (i) Body Measurement Tool (BMT), which estimates anthropometric measurements of users in order to assess changes in body conformation related to weight change, which contributes to a picture of psychophysical health status, and (ii) Motor Performance Assessment Tool (MPAT), which provides interactive support and biofeedback to users during physical activity. The paper presents preliminary tests in simulated scenarios of the two AI based modules, with first evidence showing promising future application aiming at preserving the physical and cognitive abilities of frail patients, preventing scenarios of isolation and lose of autonomy. The future application could be targeted not only at the patients themselves, but also at formal and informal caregivers, as well as healthcare institutions that could adopt the proposed solution to manage patients more efficiently.
