Enhancement of Productivity by Reducing Lead Time in, Housing for Power Steering Using Lean Manufacturing Process

Lean manufacturing approach identifies and eliminates waste through the continuous improvement and flow of the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection. This study is carried out on the basis of observations made in the Housing assembly of Hydrostatic Steering Unit (HSU) in Hydraulics Department at Rane Moter Private Ltd, Mysore. Aim of this study is to investigate reason for reduced production of HSU’s and provide promising solution by adopting lean manufacturing process. Implementation of lean manufacturing process in assembly area of HSU resulted in improvement of current assembly layout their by 20.67% of lead time is reduced. This also enhances the production to meet the customer demand from 300 HSU units to 750 units per month.
