Monitoring the Early Strength of Self-compacting Concrete Using IoT

Concrete quality management is a critical duty on building sites. The current study focuses on the many aspects impacting the quality performance of SCC initial curing time, early-age strength, and formwork removal time. The moisture sensor placed in concrete to determine the sudden change or decrease in moisture helps in intimating the appropriate time for initial curing for maintaining the moisture content in concrete. The variations in concrete temperatures and weather conditions affect the concrete early-age strength as laboratory and in situ conditions for 28 days’ curing are different. The concrete maturity methods are used with the temperature sensor (DS18B20) for determining the in situ early-age strength of concrete. The formwork removal time predication can be done at 70–80% of concrete strength achievement for avoiding catastrophic events by monitoring the early strength. The quality control is done through IoT by receiving the data from all the sensors connected to ESP32 Wi-Fi controller, and ThingSpeak platform is used for user output results. To validate these results, it is proposed to compare the laboratory tests and IoT-based monitored results for ensuring the quality and strength of SCC Mix.
