Refrigeration Cooling System for Machining Ti–6Al–4V Alloy and Optimization Using COPRAS

摘要

Ti–6Al–4V alloy machining experiments are performed and investigated. A novel cooling method using refrigeration setup has been tested to study its effect in comparison to the traditional dry machining process. Turning experiments are performed for different speeds and feeds to evaluate their impact on the alloy surface characteristics and tool wear. Significant improvement in surface finish is observed from the use of cooling. Cooling method is observed to have significant effect on alloys’ surface roughness, microhardness and tool wear. Further, Complex Proportional Assessment (COPRAS) technique is carried to detect the optimal condition.
