Effect of Water Head on Mechanical Characteristics of Submerged Friction Stir Welded 6061-T6 Aluminium Alloy

摘要

The thermal cycles that emerge during the joining process cause the joints in FSW of heat-treatable aluminium alloys to soften, which negatively affects their mechanical qualities. Due to its low peak temperature and quick dwell time, underwater FSW may be the best procedure to solve this issue. Studying how water heads affect the mechanical properties of SFS welds made of the 6061-T6 aluminium alloy is the goal of this investigation. In order to conduct the studies, different water heads were used, such as 10, 20, and 30 mm, while maintaining other conditions constant. The SFSW of 6061 aluminium alloys was examined for its mechanical properties, including microhardness, tensile strength, and fatigue. OM was used to study the microstructure of the welded samples. The findings showed that the 20 mm of the water head had stronger mechanical characteristics of joints.
