Salt Spray Concentration Test and Analysis in Four Major Sea Areas of China

High salt spray concentrations at sea can cause corrosion and damage to buildings and equipment. In order to macroscopically explore the salt spray concentration profiles in the four major sea areas of China, eleven typical areas in the four major sea areas were selected in this paper to conduct field salt spray tests in summer and winter, while the meteorological parameters during the test period were monitored. The results surface those high concentrations of chloride ions are prevalent in all areas, and nitrate, phosphate and sulfate ions are caused by anthropogenic activities, so there are obvious regional differences. Salt spray concentrations were significantly higher in winter than in summer, where the mean salt spray chloride ion concentrations were 0.42 and 1.05 mg/m3 in summer and winter, respectively. Seasonal differences in absolute humidity were the main reason for the higher salt spray concentrations in winter than in summer, whereas the mean absolute atmospheric humidity in summer and winter was 22.81 and 6.12 g/m3, respectively. Salt spray concentrations had certain. There are some sea area differences in salt spray concentrations, with the South China Sea consistently having the highest salt spray concentrations, which are 0.76 and 1.31 mg/m3 in summer and winter, respectively. In addition, seawater salinity has been shown to be a major influence on atmospheric salt spray concentrations.
