Research on Adaptive Landscape Planning Strategies for Addressing Ecological Issues in High-Density Coastal Areas: A Case Study of the Western Coast of Shenzhen

The rapid growth of high-density cities poses a significant and widespread threat to the environment, particularly in ecologically valuable coastal regions vulnerable to natural disasters. This study focuses on Shenzhen's western region as a case study to explore the ecological challenges in densely populated coastal urban areas. The primary research objective is to analyze the temporal changes in the coastal zone's ecological landscape due to climate change and human activities. Through rigorous data analysis techniques encompassing GIS and Envi tools, we conducted an in-depth examination of land use transformations, ecological vulnerability dynamics, and shifts in the ecological landscape pattern within Shenzhen's western coastal zone spanning the past two decades. In addition, we investigated changes in coastline features and wetland conditions. Our investigations unveiled several pivotal ecological concerns, including heightened vulnerability arising from fragmented ecological configurations, the expansion of construction zones, pronounced wetland and coastline erosion, and artificial desertification. To address these pressing ecological issues, we propose a comprehensive set of strategies: restoring wetlands and establishing ecological composite systems, creating a blue green ecological network to enhance economic connectivity, employing ecological design principles to transform artistic shorelines and miter erosion and ecosystem degradation, And implementing multifunctional urban planning to enhance accessibility and vitality in coastal spaces These strategies collectively aim to enhance the urban economic sustainability of Shenzhen's western region, creating a healthy and more viable urban environment for its residents.
