The Role of Affective Computing in Social Justice: Harnessing Equity and Inclusion
摘要
This study explores the critical role of affective computing in promotion of social justice through equity and inclusiveness. In a society increasingly dependent on technology, there is an urgent need to address biases and inequities that may arise during the development and implementation of affective computing systems. The process entails conducting a thorough examination of current affective computing technologies, assessing their potential influence on varied populations, and identifying areas for development. Technologically, it explores the convergence of affective computing and social justice, highlighting the significance of creating algorithms and databases that are inclusive, representational, and responsive to a wide range of emotional states. Affective computing’s function in social justice spans multiple domains, including healthcare, education, employment, and criminal justice. The convergence of emotional computing and social justice is using technology to reduce bias, improve accessibility, and promote fair decision-making. However, obstacles remain, such as the need for more diverse and extensive datasets, improving algorithms to meet cultural nuances, and developing ethical guidelines for the proper deployment of affective computing in sensitive areas. It also contributes to emotional well-being and mental health by monitoring and analysing emotions and stress levels facilitating early interventions and support. Virtual reality empathy training can create immersive experiences that foster empathy, challenge stereotypes, and promote social justice. By integrating affective computing technologies into various domains, we can work towards creating more equitable and inclusive societies, where biases are detected, addressed, and eliminated, paving the way for a more just future. Finally, this study emphasizes the promise of affective computing as a strong tool for advancing social justice, emphasizing the significance of ongoing research, collaboration, and ethical considerations in order to fully harness its powers in creating a more equal and inclusive society.
