摘要

Since colonisation and well after Federation, Australia had remained dependent on Britain. Yet, even in the early days of Australia, the colonies found they did not always share common interests with that of Britain, particularly in major policy areas that brought Australia into the wider global community, such as trade, immigration, defence and Pacific policy.
