The Earliest English Armorials on Ceramics
摘要
This chapter looks at the earliest armorials produced on earthenware: delftware and slipware. It considers the role of the livery companies and the reasons why livery company officials placed armorial commissions. Manufacture of stoneware is discussed, including the development of key types of stoneware: white salt-glaze, redware, creamware, pearlware and the major manufacturers. Armorial decoration of each type is discussed.
