Loyalty at Work as a Condition of Meaningful Work

  • Ginés Santiago Marco Perles

摘要

The objective of this chapter is to connect two concepts in business ethics, i.e., the concept of “loyalty” with the concept of “meaningful work”, focused on the conceptual level and examine the ethical dimension from this perspective. Likewise, this dimension is expressed in the tradition of ethics of virtue which, sustained by MacIntyre, has undergone renewed interest in recent decades. This tradition, as its name suggests, places special emphasis on people’s virtue practices (and not so much on a mere adhesion to principles or compliance with legal standards). The aim of this contribution has been to defend the notion that only by considering loyalty as a virtue deployed by managers and employees can meaningful work be substantiated in a solid and continuous way over time.
