A variety of measurement methods are used to test mechanical properties of refractory materials. The theoretical connections used for the evaluation are mainly derived from linear elastic fracture mechanics. However, this leads to inaccurate results because nonlinear elastic fracture mechanicsFracture Mechanics, Linear, Nonlinear better describe the properties of refractory materials and concretes (castables).
