Design and Development of an AI Agriculture System

The agricultural sector consumes approximately 85% of the world’s available freshwater resources. With population growth and increased food demand, this percentage is increasing exponentially. Therefore, the challenge of managing the growing demand becomes more difficult to address without applying modern agricultural methods. The smart irrigation system is the key factor that leads to improve productivity and reduce costs. The main objective of this work, is to create an intelligent system based on the combination of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence in order to regulate irrigation depending on specific environmental conditions. The system is accessible through a web platform that retrieves different parameters such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity and luminosity, collected through sensors connected to the Raspberry PI. It provides also automated or remote access to a pumping engine.
