This chapter provides an overview of contemporary issues related to migration. The aim is to provide contextual information that feeds into ongoing debates over heterogeneous transcultural and transnational cinema. A broad sketch of migration, though not exhaustive, informs this reading through various locations across the most vulnerable areas where the processes of displacement occur frequently. Statistical data are presented to capture the current compelling global migration trends, aiming to grasp the controversial discourses in the global public sphere and the geographical patterns surrounding this global occurrence. The chapter approaches migrations through four large areas of influence: the Mediterranean region, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. The decision to explore different geographical locations known for their long-standing migratory experiences is driven by the aim of understanding how migration is addressed in these diverse contexts.

摘要
