Cancer of the Gastrointestinal Tract
摘要
The gastrointestinal tract is responsible for several advanced and autonomous tasks, such as digestion, absorption, excretion, and protection. The GI lining epithelium is a continuous and rapidly renewing tissue. These renewal properties facilitate regeneration after a lesion, but under cancer-promoting factors, such as inflammation, it can be a site prone to tumor development. GI cancers, such as colorectal, liver, and stomach cancers, are responsible for a majority of cancer-related deaths due to their high incidence, late diagnosis, and low survival rate.
