摘要

The skin, our body’s natural armor, is susceptible to various ailments, including autoimmune disorders and common dermatological issues. Many of these conditions affect the skin’s outermost layer, the horny layer, necessitating drug penetration for effective treatment. Nanotechnology, with its diverse nanoformulations, offers a promising avenue for enhancing drug delivery to targeted skin areas. In contrast to synthetic drugs with associated side effects, natural compounds from plants present advantages such as reduced side effects, patient tolerance, cost-effectiveness, and broader acceptance. Phyto-nanomedicine amalgamates the therapeutic attributes of plant compounds with advanced nanotechnology, enabling precise molecular-level targeting of skin disorders. Nano-sized drug delivery systems facilitate superior penetration, improving drug availability and efficacy while minimizing undesirable side effects. Despite the challenges faced by herbal drugs in practical applications, including poor solubility and low bioavailability of active compounds, recent advancements in nanoformulations are poised to overcome these limitations. These novel approaches hold significant potential to revolutionize the treatment landscape for various skin conditions. By pairing plant-based compounds with eco-friendly nanocarriers, an exciting paradigm emerges for addressing skin disorders. This chapter critically examines the skin’s significance, its associated challenges, and the pioneering role of phyto-nanomedicine in delivering natural compounds for the treatment of diverse skin pathologies.
